Intensive Outpatient Program

Our IOP program includes Ketamine and TMS when suitable.

What is IOP?

Many people rely on individual therapy for psychological support, but there are times when people need more support than can be provided by individual therapy alone.

Men and women requiring more comprehensive mental health services may be referred to an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

An IOP is a structured therapeutic environment which provides therapy and therapeutic services  3 to 5 times a week for 3 hours each day, and typically runs for 6-12 weeks.

An IOP provides an opportunity for people who are recovering from a mental illness to continue their recovery, offering group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatry and other modalities for men and women with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health issues.

Unlike an inpatient program, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers participants the ability to receive treatment while still living at home and engaging in their personal lives. You can attend Holistic Mental Health’s IOP treatment program without disrupting your work, routine or relationships.

All our services we offer, work especially well when they are combined. Please call us for more details.

IOP level of treatment is 3 or more hours per day for 3 to 5 days per week. This more intensive level of treatment will be individualized to address your needs, and includes both individual and group sessions to provide you and all clients a more holistic and contained environment.

During admission to our program, all clients will receive an assessment and evaluation to develop an individualized treatment plan and establish next steps moving forward. You  will meet with a primary therapist, a psychiatrist, an MD  and specialists in treatment modalities that are determined to be a best fit.

Our treatment is highly individualized, focuses on your  specific needs!

The individualized treatment program will consists of some or all of the following modalities, depending on your needs:

GROUP THERAPY

Group therapy can be an effective way to share experiences with others dealing with the same issues in the community. Group therapy sessions are kept small, typically less than 8 people per group, and are 100% confidential.

We have several groups a day, morning and evening groups are available, also some mid-day groups. Please contact us for a group schedule. We encourage our clients to attend as many groups as possible, we find they play a key role in healing.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

CBT is one of the most well-researched methods of talk therapy. CBT involves becoming aware of negative, self-destructive, and/or maladaptive thought patterns, and developing skills to help deter these. CBT is an active type of talk therapy, whereby the individual works on attaining specific goals with their therapist.

DBT – DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY

DBT is another type of evidence-based talk therapy, involving developing increased mindfulness, emotional regulation, resilience, and communication skills. Once learned, DBT skills can become useful in many other facets in life.

TMS

TMS uses magnetic pulses to gently activate parts of the brain associated with depression and anxiety. TMS is typically administered 5 times per week for 4-6 weeks. TMS is both drug-free and FDA-approved.

KETAMINE / SPRAVATO / nasal or oral form

Ketamine (or name-brand Spravato) is an intranasal spray with a profound ability to rapidly alleviate symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and pain.  Ketamine treatments could be office or at-home administered closely monitored by our medical team.

NEUROFEEDBACK

Neurofeedback allows individuals to train their own brainwaves to combat maladaptive patterns and behaviors. A computer is set up to monitor these brainwaves, and we give the individual different types of feedback depending on what waves are being produced. For instance, if an individual is anxious, their brainwaves will reflect this, and the computer will may make a specific sound. The same may happen if someone is more relaxed. Over time, people can learn how to control their own brainwaves and teach themselves how to regulate their own brain.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices such as meditation and breathing exercises. Using these tools, therapists teach clients how to break away from negative thought patterns that can cause a downward spiral into a depressed state so they will be able to fight off depression before it takes hold.

VR THERAPY

Incorporating VR in therapy can increase the ease, acceptability, and effectiveness of treatment for anxiety. VR exposure therapy (VRET) permits individualized, gradual, controlled, immersive exposure that is easy for therapists to implement and often more acceptable to patients than in vivo or imaginal exposure.

EMDR – TRAUMA THERAPY

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most effective treatments available for PTSD.

EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy is a type of mind-body intervention in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility in the treatment of a medical or psychological disorder or concern.

FAQs – How long is the IOP therapy program?

It typically runs anywhere between 6 weeks to 3 months, depending on individual needs, diagnosis and individualized treatment plan. There is always a possibility for booster sessions and asking your insurance company to cover you for more time based on medical necessity.

Will my insurance cover me for TMS?

As long as you meet these requirements by your insurance provider, you will be covered for TMS therapy. You will always be responsible for your deductibles and copayments if any. We can run your verification of benefits to provide you with all those details.
Here are the requirements by the major insurance companies:

  • Aetna: 2 antidepressant medications in the past + 1 combination of two or more drugs
  • Anthem Blue Cross: 2 antidepressant medications in the past
  • Blue Shield (Magellan): 4 antidepressant medications in the past
  • Cigna: 2 antidepressant medications of 2 different classes (e.g., both can’t be SSRI’s)
  • Medicare: 1 antidepressant in the past
  • United Healthcare (Optum): 4 antidepressant medications in the past

In most cases you also have to show that you tried therapy before too.

In case you are not covered for TMS therapy only, we have a solution : thankfully Holistic Mental Health offers TMS as part of it’s IOP Treatment program. Meaning we bundle TMS therapy with psychiatry and individual and group therapy. You will most likely be approved for bundled services rather than individual services.

Will my insurance cover treatment?

Health insurance may cover a portion or all of a client’s cost for outpatient mental health.

In-network and out-of-network insurance benefits differ from policy to policy and coverage is based on medical necessity. Not all people require the same level of care and that is why each client at Holistic Mental Health has a personalized treatment plan.

To find out if your health insurance can be used for treatment, Holistic Mental Health admissions consultants can run a courtesy insurance verification to determine if your policy has benefits and if there is any out of pocket cost.
